About the role#
As a System Automation Engineer Intern, you will work within the Transmission and Substation Engineering Department to support critical infrastructure projects. You will collaborate with experienced engineers to ensure the reliability of the electrical grid, focusing on substation automation, maintenance, and operational support. This role involves hands-on engineering tasks and participation in project meetings and site walkdowns.
What you'll do#
- Identify SCADA deficiencies, prepare substation SCADA topology, and issue automation requirements.
- Program Remote Terminal Units (RTU) and troubleshoot automation equipment malfunctions.
- Assist in supporting new remote access and user authentication applications.
- Determine and issue relay settings for integrated station annunciators.
- Assign IP and DNP addresses for integrated devices on substation LANs.
- Review construction drawings and store configuration files in the system of record.
- Collaborate with internal departments including maintenance, construction, and distribution planning.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline at an accredited university.
- Must be continuing education toward a degree during or after the internship.
- A minimum cumulative and major GPA of 3.0.
- Strong programming, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

- Work Modality: Hybrid, with 10% travel expected within the service territory.
