About the role#
As a System Automation Engineer Intern, you will work within the Transmission and Substation Engineering Department to support capital investment projects. You will act as a link between the company and the interconnection of generation, capacity demand, and system reliability improvements. You will work alongside experienced engineers to support substation automation, maintenance, and operations.
What you'll do#
- Identify SCADA deficiencies and prepare SCADA topology at substations.
- Issue automation requirements and determine relay settings for integrated station annunciators.
- Program Remote Terminal Units (RTU) and manage IP/DNP addresses for devices on substation LANs.
- Troubleshoot automation equipment malfunctions.
- Participate in project walkdowns and project meetings.
- Collaborate with vendors on training and assist in supporting remote access and user authentication applications.
- Review construction drawings and store RTU configurations on the system of record.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline at an accredited university.
- Must be continuing education toward a degree during or after the internship.
- Cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or greater.
- Strong programming, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively.
Location & details#
- Location: Fresno, California.
- Term: Summer 2026.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (requires in-office presence at the discretion of the hiring leader).
- Travel: Approximately 10% travel within the service territory is expected.
- Compensation: Hourly rate ranges from $24.52 to $35.37.
