System Automation Engineer Intern (Fresno)

About the role#

As a System Automation Engineer Intern, you will work within the Transmission & Substation Engineering Department to support capital investments in substation and transmission line projects. You will act as a link between the company and the expansion of generation capacity and system reliability improvements. This is a full-time, paid summer 2026 internship based in Fresno, California.

What you'll do#

• Identify SCADA deficiencies, prepare substation SCADA topology, and issue automation requirements.
• Program Remote Terminal Units (RTU) and troubleshoot automation equipment malfunctions.
• Determine and issue relay settings for integrated station annunciators and IP/DNP addresses for LAN-integrated devices.
• Participate in project walkdowns, project meetings, and construction drawing reviews.
• Engage and collaborate with vendors on training.
• Support new remote access and user authentication applications while maintaining system records for RTU configurations.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline at an accredited university.
• Must be continuing education toward a degree during or after the internship.
• Cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or greater.
• Strong programming, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

• Location: Fresno, CA.
• Modality: Hybrid, with 10% travel expected within the service territory.
