System Automation Engineer Intern

About the role#

As a System Automation Engineer Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers to support substation and transmission line projects. You will contribute to system reliability, capacity demand management, and the interconnection of generation across California. This role involves hands-on engineering tasks, project collaboration, and active participation in design and maintenance activities.

What you'll do#

• Identify SCADA deficiencies, prepare substation SCADA topology, and issue automation requirements.
• Conduct construction drawing reviews and provide support for automation equipment troubleshooting.
• Determine and issue relay settings for integrated station annunciators.
• Program Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) and manage IP/DNP addresses for integrated LAN devices.
• Collaborate with vendors on training initiatives.
• Store RTU configurations and point lists in the official system of records.
• Participate in project meetings and site walkdowns.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline at an accredited university.
• Must be continuing education toward a degree during or after the internship.
• Strong programming, problem-solving, and analytical capabilities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Location: Fresno, California.
• Term: Summer 2026.
• Work Modality: Hybrid, with 10% travel expected within the service territory.
• Employment Type: Full-time, paid internship.
