About the role#
As a System Automation Engineer Intern, you will support the transmission and substation engineering department by working alongside experienced engineers. You will contribute to projects focused on system reliability, capacity demand, and infrastructure improvements. This role involves hands-on engineering tasks and collaboration across multiple departments, including maintenance, construction, and distribution planning.
What you'll do#
- Identify SCADA deficiencies, prepare SCADA topology at substations, and issue automation requirements.
- Review construction drawings and determine relay settings for integrated station annunciators.
- Program Remote Terminal Units (RTU) and troubleshoot automation equipment malfunctions.
- Determine and issue IP and DNP addresses for integrated devices on local area networks within substations.
- Collaborate with vendors on training and assist in supporting new remote access and user authentication applications.
- Participate in project meetings and site walkdowns.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline at an accredited university.
- Must be continuing education toward a degree during or after the internship.
- Strong programming, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.

- Term: Summer 2026.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (requires in-office presence at the discretion of the hiring leader).
- Travel: Approximately 10% within the service territory.
- Status: Paid, full-time internship.
