Substation Engineering Intern

About the role#

As a Substation Engineering Intern, you will support critical infrastructure projects involving the design and construction of transmission and distribution substations. You will work alongside experienced engineers to assist with equipment upgrades, capacity expansions, and reliability enhancements to support California's energy demand. This role provides direct exposure to the design, construction, and operation of substation infrastructure.

What you'll do#

• Promote safe work practices in accordance with the Corporate Safety policy.
• Support team members in the design of transmission and distribution substations using specialized software.
• Create and update technical drawings, including single line diagrams, AC & DC schematics, and indoor/outdoor arrangements.
• Ensure the delivery of high-quality design products on time and within budget.
• Collaborate with departments such as Maintenance, Construction, Asset Strategy, and Distribution Planning to gain cross-functional project experience.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering in a full-time capacity at an accredited university.
• A cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or greater.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Reliable transportation to and from the work location.
• EIT or FE certification is preferred.

• Location: Fresno, California.
• Term: Summer 2026.
• Modality: Hybrid, with 10% travel expected within the service territory.
• Status: Paid, full-time internship. Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
