Substation Engineering Intern

About the role#

As a Substation Engineering Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers to support the design and infrastructure needs of Pacific Gas and Electric Company. This role focuses on the interconnection of generation, capacity expansion, and system reliability improvements across California. You will gain exposure to the broader Substation Engineering organization while contributing to projects that support the company's capital investment in transmission and distribution.

What you'll do#

• Actively promote safe practices in accordance with the Corporate Safety policy.
• Support team members in the design of transmission and distribution substations, utilizing specialized software for both indoor and outdoor equipment.
• Assist in creating and updating technical drawings, including single line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, and equipment arrangements.
• Collaborate with various departments, including Maintenance, Construction, Asset Strategy, Distribution Planning, Standards, Protection, and Automation.
• Ensure the delivery of high-quality design products that meet project timelines and budget requirements.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Electrical Engineering at an accredited university.
• Commitment to continuing education full-time during or after the internship.
• Coursework in power systems.
• Possession of an EIT or FE certification.
• Reliable transportation to and from the work location.

• Location: Oakland, California.
• Term: Summer 2026.
• Modality: Hybrid, with an expectation to work from the office approximately 2 days per week.
• Employment: Full-time, paid position.
