About the role#
As a Substation Engineering Intern, you will support the design and construction of critical infrastructure that powers California. You will work alongside experienced engineers on substation projects, including equipment upgrades, capacity expansions, and reliability enhancements. This role serves as a link between generation and substation infrastructure, providing exposure to the design, construction, and operation of high-voltage systems.
What you'll do#
- Promote safe work practices in accordance with the Corporate Safety policy.
- Support team members in the design of transmission and distribution substations using specialized software for both indoor equipment, such as relays and switchgear, and outdoor equipment, such as transformers and circuit breakers.
- Create and update technical drawings, including single-line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, and control room layouts.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality design products on time and within budget.
- Collaborate with various internal departments, including Maintenance, Construction, Asset Strategy, and Protection.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at an accredited university.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Reliable transportation to and from the work location.
- EIT or FE certification is preferred.

- Travel: Expected 10% of the time within the PG&E service territory.
- Status: Full-time, paid internship.
