Non-destructive Examination Intern

About the role#

The Non-destructive Examination (NDE) Intern will join the Applied Technology Services group to support inspection technology development, asset condition assessment, and integrity management. This role involves working alongside engineers, scientists, and technicians on initiatives related to pipeline safety, electric asset reliability, and advanced inspection methods. This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2026.

What you'll do#

• Support senior staff with laboratory testing of materials, welds, and components to characterize degradation such as corrosion and cracking.
• Evaluate and validate NDE technologies and inspection tools for gas, hydro, and electric infrastructure.
• Perform data acquisition, signal processing, and analytics to support asset integrity assessments.
• Assist with the development, deployment, and field validation of custom inspection tools and robotic platforms.
• Conduct field inspections and pilot demonstrations.
• Prepare documentation, reports, and engineering analysis.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Must be continuing education toward your degree during or after the internship.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA in both cumulative and major coursework.
• EIT or FE certification is preferred.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Location & details#

• This position is based in San Ramon, California, with potential work in Danville, California.
• This is an on-site role requiring 5 days per week in the office.
• Travel may be required, typically less than 10% of the time.
• Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
