Grid & Electrification Innovation, Intern

About the role#

The Grid & Electrification Innovation intern will work within the Applied Technology Services organization, focusing on electric transmission and distribution hardware and software validation. This role involves supporting senior engineering staff on initiatives such as battery energy storage system evaluation, reliability analysis for grid infrastructure, and laboratory testing for electric vehicle integration and microgrid projects.

What you'll do#

• Conduct technology literature reviews and evaluate transmission and distribution technologies.
• Perform power system modeling, analysis, and engineering studies.
• Support laboratory testing for research and development projects.
• Assist with advanced metering evaluation and distributed energy resource integration.
• Develop project concept papers and research proposals for potential partnerships.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar discipline at an accredited university.
• A cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or greater.
• Previous academic or internship exposure to power or energy systems.
• Demonstrated interest in areas including power system equipment testing, power flow modeling, test automation, engineering analytics, power electronics, electric vehicles, and distributed energy resources.
• A valid driver’s license (or the ability to obtain one at least 30 days prior to the start date).
• Ability to continue education toward a degree during or after the internship.
