About the role#
The Fire Science Engineer Intern joins the Applied Technology Services team to support engineering solutions for asset risk management and wildfire mitigation. You will work alongside senior engineers to investigate fire hazards, ignition sources, and thermal damage related to electrical equipment and hardware. This position involves hands-on laboratory and field work to support failure analysis and safety testing.
What you'll do#
- Apply engineering principles to perform testing, calculations, and analysis under senior supervision.
- Support inspection and failure analysis activities focused on fire hazards and thermal damage.
- Set up and operate test apparatus and instrumentation for both laboratory and field testing.
- Compile, analyze, and document technical data for engineering investigations.
- Prepare progress reports and track key business metrics for assigned projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Environmental, or Electrical Engineering.
- You must be continuing your education during or after the summer 2026 term.
- Foundational knowledge in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and fire science.
- Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics tools such as ANSYS FLUENT.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
