Electric Distribution Intern

About the role#

The Electric Distribution Planning team is seeking an intern to support critical engineering functions focused on the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the electric distribution system. This position involves technical support for planning, design, construction, and maintenance functions, with a focus on equipment capacity, voltage, and system reliability.

What you'll do#

• Develop long-term and short-term capacity plan recommendations.
• Monitor area substation and circuit capabilities while tracking corresponding loads.
• Perform planning studies to accurately model the electric distribution system.
• Analyze historical loads and project future growth.
• Prepare and initiate switching plans to alleviate normal deficiencies and minimize emergency issues.
• Prepare settings for protection and voltage regulation equipment.
• Review requests for new large load additions and analyze outages to develop reliability improvements.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at an accredited university.
• Must be continuing education toward a degree during or after the internship.
• Minimum 3.0 cumulative and major GPA.
• Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one at least 30 days prior to the start date.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Familiarity with Python and SQL scripts is preferred, as is coursework in power systems engineering.

• Compensation: $24.52 – $35.37 per hour.
