Electric Distribution Intern

About the role#

The Electric Distribution Planning team supports the safe and reliable operation of the electric distribution system. This internship focuses on engineering and technical support for planning, design, construction, and maintenance functions, specifically regarding equipment capacity, voltage, and power factor support.

What you'll do#

• Develop long-term and short-term capacity plan recommendations.
• Monitor area substation and circuit capabilities while tracking corresponding loads.
• Perform planning studies to model the electric distribution system accurately.
• Analyze historical load data and project future growth.
• Prepare and initiate switching plans to address normal and emergency system deficiencies.
• Prepare settings for protection and voltage regulation equipment.
• Review requests for new large load additions and evaluate outages to develop reliability improvements.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Electrical Engineering at an accredited university.
• Commitment to continuing education during or after the internship term.
• A cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or greater.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
• A valid driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one at least 30 days before the start date.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment with strong analytical and communication skills.
