About the role#
The Electric Distribution Planning team at Pacific Gas and Electric Company is seeking an intern to support engineering functions related to the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the electric distribution system. This role involves technical support for planning, design, construction, and maintenance functions, with a focus on equipment capacity, voltage, and system reliability.
What you'll do#
- Develop long-term and short-term capacity plan recommendations.
- Monitor area substation and circuit capabilities while tracking corresponding loads.
- Perform planning studies to model the electric distribution system.
- Analyze historical loads to project future growth.
- Prepare and initiate switching plans to address normal and emergency system deficiencies.
- Prepare settings for protection and voltage regulation equipment.
- Review requests for new large load additions and analyze outages to develop reliability improvements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master degree program in Electrical Engineering at an accredited university.
- Must be continuing education full time during or after the internship.
- Cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or greater.
- Coursework or concentration in power systems engineering.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Familiarity with Python and SQL scripts is desired.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.
