About the role#
The Grid Technology Engineering Intern will join the Grid Technology Engineering & Evaluation (GTEE) organization within Applied Technology Services. This role focuses on advanced transmission and distribution hardware and software validation, real-time power system modeling, and laboratory testing. The intern will work alongside senior engineering staff on initiatives including electric vehicle integration, battery energy storage, microgrid studies, and reliability improvements for electrical infrastructure.
What you'll do#
- Support senior staff with transmission and distribution equipment testing.
- Conduct power system modeling and analysis.
- Perform power hardware in loop (PHIL) and control hardware in loop (CHIL) testing.
- Assist with advanced communication and asset health monitoring.
- Work on distributed energy resource integration, data fusion, analytics, and automation.
- Participate in electric vehicle testing and related research and development projects.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at an accredited university.
- Must be continuing education towards the degree during or after the internship.
- Preferred qualifications include an EIT or FE certification and a GPA of 3.0 or greater in both cumulative and major coursework.
- Prior engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation.
- Proficiency with utility modeling software such as CYME, PSCAD, RSCAD, PSS/E, or PSLF.
- Experience with programming languages or tools including Python, Matlab, or National Instruments Labview.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
