About the role#
As an Inpatient Pharmacy Intern, you will work under the direction of a pharmacist to support the preparation and distribution of medications. This role involves both clinical and operational tasks within the pharmacy. You will maintain a clean workspace, follow safety protocols, and communicate clearly with the pharmacy team and clinical staff. Professionalism and attention to detail are required at all times.
What you'll do#
- Review and assess medication and IV orders for drug interactions and incompatibilities.
- Evaluate orders for appropriateness based on patient age and clinical expectations.
- Provide clinical interventions by communicating with physicians, nurses, and patients.
- Prepare intravenous admixtures and sterile products using aseptic technique.
- Process discharge patient medication orders, including input, filling, and packaging.
- Weigh, measure, and mix medicinal compounds.
- Store and preserve biologicals, vaccines, and other drugs.
- Answer clinical questions regarding medication use.
- Assist the pharmacist on duty with daily operations and report any safety issues promptly.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in good standing at an accredited college of pharmacy approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy, or recent graduation with registration pending.
- Active Oklahoma licensed intern permit.
- Knowledge of pharmacology principles and procedures.
- Ability to lift 50 to 100 lbs and perform physical tasks like climbing, bending, or pulling.
- Strong communication skills and a focus on customer service.
- High attention to detail for accurate data handling.
