About the role#
This position is for nursing students to learn healthcare support skills and gain experience in a hospital setting. You will work under the general supervision of a registered nurse to perform routine patient care tasks.
What you'll do#
- Monitor patient health status and implement care plans under RN supervision.
- Carry out physician and nursing orders as directed.
- Record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
- Perform blood glucose monitoring and collect specimens.
- Monitor intravenous infusions and transfusions.
- Set up and discontinue telemetry monitors.
- Perform sterile procedures, including applying dressings and removing sutures, staples, or drains.
- Manage stoma irrigation, colostomy pouches, and tube feedings.
- Perform oral and tracheostomy suctioning.
- Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Transport patients to and from treatment centers.
- Maintain patient rooms and restock supplies.
- Report significant changes in patient condition to the RN.
- Take emergency actions when required.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in an accredited registered nursing program.
- Must be a student in the OU Accelerated Program graduating in July 2027.
- Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
- Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow written or oral instructions.
- Ability to maintain effective working relations with others.
