About the role#
As a Nurse Extern, you will work under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse to support patient care. This position is part-time and operates on a rolling basis, allowing you to gain practical experience while you continue your nursing education.
What you'll do#
- Perform direct patient care under the guidance of an RN.
- Assist patients with daily activities like personal hygiene, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Monitor and document patient conditions, communicating updates to the supervising nurse.
- Collaborate with the care team to coordinate patient transfers, discharges, and referrals.
- Provide education to patients and their families based on their specific learning needs.
- Advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of every patient.
- Maintain professional relationships with families, coworkers, and the broader healthcare team.
- Support the hospital's performance improvement philosophy.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a School of Nursing as a 3rd year student or higher.
- A Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP) certification.
