About the role#
Okanagan College is seeking a Library & Learning Commons Student Assistant to support the daily operations of library and learning spaces in Penticton. This role involves maintaining library collections, assisting students with college services, and ensuring that study areas remain organized and functional. This is a paid, on-site position for the Summer and Fall 2026 terms.
What you'll do#
- Perform basic maintenance of the library collection, including re-shelving materials and sorting items by call number.
- Assist students with navigating online services, the learning management system, and student portals.
- Maintain the cleanliness of student workstations and public desk areas.
- Provide basic printing support, such as replacing paper and toner.
- Issue student ID cards according to established procedures.
- Count and record the number of users in library spaces and track gate counts.
- Take inventory of supplies and report equipment issues to staff.
- Perform end-of-shift duties, including clearing spaces and powering down equipment.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at Okanagan College.
- Proficiency in following both oral and written instructions.
- Strong time management, organizational, and writing skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- High attention to detail.
- Previous experience in library, IT, or customer service is considered an asset.
