About the role#
This position supports the daily operations of the Library and Learning Commons at Okanagan College. Working under direct supervision, the student assistant helps maintain library spaces and provides support to students navigating college services. This role is open to students across various disciplines, including business, communications, and media studies.
What you'll do#
- Perform basic maintenance of the library collection, including sorting and re-shelving materials.
- Assist students with navigating online services, student portals, and learning management systems.
- Maintain cleanliness of library spaces, including student workstations and public desks.
- Provide basic printing assistance, such as replacing paper and toner.
- Pick up library materials from tables and desks.
- Issue student ID cards according to established procedures.
- Track and record the number of people using library and learning commons spaces.
- Monitor the condition of computers and equipment, reporting any issues to staff.
- Perform end-of-shift duties, such as clearing spaces and powering down monitors.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at Okanagan College.
- Proficiency in following both oral and written instructions.
- Excellent time management, organizational, and writing skills.
- Significant attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Previous experience in a library, IT, or customer service role is considered an asset.
