About the role#
NiSource is seeking a Summer Operations Intern for a 12-week program starting in May 2027. This role is open to students entering their junior or senior year. You will join a department, learn in a team environment, and work on projects alongside team members and leaders. This position offers a broad overview of utility operations and industry events.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of the operations work plan.
- Collect data and prepare reports to monitor programs, work plans, and operating budgets.
- Research and gather environmental files in the public domain for integration into the Geographic Information System (GIS).
- Support Transformation Office Consultants and Governance Lead positions with continuous improvement activities.
- Collaborate with team members and leaders on various projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited university with a major in Business Administration, Accounting, Operations Management, Environmental Engineering, GIS, or a related discipline.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and solve problems.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- The role is based in Merrillville, Indiana, or Hammond, Indiana.
- You must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location.
- As a public utility, the company operates 24/7. You may be asked to support emergency response efforts, which could include working outside normal hours.
