About the role#
This is a 12-week summer internship program starting in May 2027. You will work under the direct supervision of a Distribution Planning Engineer to gain experience in utility operations and system modeling. This role is designed to help you develop technical knowledge, critical thinking, and safe work practices while collaborating with team members on projects.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the development and updating of electric distribution system databases and studies.
- Evaluate the operations of existing electrical system equipment.
- Review requests for new business load additions and distributed energy generators.
- Use computer modeling to assess system adequacy and identify needs for improvements.
- Collect and analyze data and review records.
- Gain familiarity with planning techniques and how renewable energy technologies integrate into the grid.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ABET accredited, four-year Electrical or Computer Engineering program.
- Completion of at least two years of undergraduate study.
- Proficiency with PC applications, including Python, MS Excel, and Access.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
