About the role#
NiSource is seeking a Federal Government Affairs Intern for a 12-week program during the summer of 2027. This role is based in Washington, D.C. You will join the Federal Government Affairs team to gain hands-on experience in utility industry operations, policy strategy, and advocacy. This is a full-time, paid position requiring 40 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Assist the Federal Government Affairs team in executing government affairs strategies.
- Support the development of public policy priorities and advocacy plans.
- Prepare written summaries of testimonies from relevant hearings to identify potential business impacts.
- Help advance Political Action Committee (PAC) efforts and increase membership across the company.
- Develop materials for team meetings and cross-functional projects.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a college or graduate program in Political Science, Public Policy, Energy, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week during the summer.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
