About the role#
NiSource is seeking a Communications Intern for a 12-week program during the summer of 2027. You will join the department to work on storytelling, content creation, and platform management. This role provides an overview of operations within the utilities industry and offers experience in how communications support business strategy. You will collaborate with team members on projects and participate in professional development activities.
What you'll do#
- Draft, schedule, and publish content for LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and Nextdoor.
- Support video and photo production by assisting with storyboarding and on-site shoots.
- Track performance metrics using Hootsuite and platform insights to help inform strategy.
- Assist the Communications team with messaging during emergency outages and service disruptions.
- Update media contact and community stakeholder lists.
- Develop news content for internal and external communications.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a rising junior or senior in an undergraduate program for journalism, public relations, communications, or a related field.
- Intermediate skill level with Adobe Suite, specifically Photoshop.
- Prior experience working for a college newspaper or an internship at a PR firm.
- Authorization to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship based in Merrillville, Indiana.
- You must reside within 50 miles of the Merrillville reporting location.
