About the role#
NiSource is seeking a Summer Aviation Intern to join our Flight Department. This 12-week program provides hands-on experience with unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and utility aviation operations. You will work alongside experienced professionals, participate in team-building activities, and gain insight into the utilities industry. This is a full-time, paid internship starting in May 2027.
What you'll do#
- Assist in planning and coordinating UAS operations and flight schedules.
- Support data collection and reporting for safety metrics, compliance, and operational performance.
- Contribute to crew briefings and project execution schedules.
- Engage in risk assessments and safety management system activities.
- Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and scheduling teams to maintain operational readiness.
- Potentially act as Remote Pilot in Command for select UAS missions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a rising junior or senior pursuing a degree in Aviation, UAS Operations, or Aerospace Engineering.
- A valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
- Authorization to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
- Residency within 50 miles of the reporting location.
- Preferred experience includes prior work on UAS projects or a Private Pilot License.

- Locations: Valparaiso, Indiana or Columbus, Ohio.
- Schedule: Hybrid, with three days on-site and two days remote per week.
- Term: Summer 2027.
