About the role#
The Streaming Algorithms team is responsible for the quality of playback across Live and VoD services. The team designs adaptive streaming algorithms and optimizes system performance across the streaming path. This internship focuses on enhancing the scalability of the Live streaming system and improving the streaming quality of experience (QoE) on millions of devices.
What you'll do#
- Assist in enhancing the scalability of the Netflix Live streaming system.
- Improve streaming quality of experience (QoE) across millions of devices.
- Help evolve the system architecture across the entire streaming path.
- Conduct controlled field experiments to validate system improvements.
What you'll need#
- Currently an early-stage PhD student, or a later-stage PhD student with a thesis closely aligned with Live QoE and scalability.
- Academic or research experience in network measurement, network performance algorithms (such as congestion control or adaptive streaming), content delivery, or encoding technology.
- A bias to action, including a willingness to take smart risks and avoid analysis paralysis.
- Preferred: Experience with applying statistics and experimentation in research projects.
- Preferred: Experience with video technologies.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
