About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to learn from experienced line technicians in the field. You will support the operation of the Distribution and Subtransmission Grid system while gaining hands-on experience in utility line work. The program runs from January 4, 2027, through May 17, 2027, with the schedule aligned to your school calendar.
What you'll do#
- Climb wood poles at any height to perform repairs, maintenance, and construction tasks.
- Patrol distribution and subtransmission lines while maintaining focus on safety.
- Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and hydraulic aerial machinery like digger derricks.
- Maintain positive relationships with customers, property owners, and other personnel.
- Complete miscellaneous duties as assigned by your supervisor.
What you'll need#
- Successful completion of your first year in an accredited Utility Line program.
- Successful completion of your first semester in the Utility Line program at Western Nebraska Community College.
- Current certification to climb from an accredited institution.
- Requirement to complete this internship as part of your curriculum.
- A Class A CDL license is preferred.
- Ability to pass a background check, physical, and drug screen.
- Safety shoes that meet ASTM F2413-05 specifications.
Location & details#
- Locations: Scottsbluff, Chadron, and Ogallala, Nebraska.
- Modality: On-site.
- Travel: Up to 25 percent, with minimal overnight stays required.
- Status: Full-time, paid internship.
