About the role#
Momentive Technologies offers an on-site Academic Practicum for Case Western Reserve University students. You will work with Operations Excellence and manufacturing leaders in the Ceramics, Powders & Shapes production area. This experience allows you to apply Lean manufacturing and operational excellence concepts in a real-world setting. You will observe production processes, identify waste, and develop recommendations to improve factory-floor organization. This is an unpaid educational experience.
What you'll do#
- Apply Lean manufacturing and 5S principles within a production environment.
- Observe manufacturing processes to understand current operations.
- Analyze workflow, material flow, and visual management practices to find improvement opportunities.
- Document observations and evaluate sources of inefficiency using structured problem-solving.
- Develop recommendations for improved workplace layouts, visual controls, and 5S standards.
- Create project deliverables such as process maps, organization concepts, and improvement recommendations.
- Prepare and present a final project summary to company leadership.
- Maintain records of spare parts within SAP and verify safety stock.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at Case Western Reserve University in a degree program related to operations management, supply chain management, engineering, business, organizational leadership, or analytics.
- Eligibility to participate in a university-sanctioned practicum, independent study, or faculty-sponsored project.
- Academic exposure to or interest in Lean operations, 5S, continuous improvement, or manufacturing process analysis.
- Ability to sign and comply with a nondisclosure or confidentiality agreement.
- Commitment to follow all safety training and facility requirements.

- This role is located on-site at the Momentive Technologies facility in Strongsville, Ohio.
- This is an unpaid academic practicum.
- Participation is rolling based on university and company schedules.
