About the role#
The Volunteer Services team at the Minnesota Historical Society is looking for an intern to support the recruitment, training, and management of volunteers across our sites. This role is a part-time, paid position for the Winter 2027 term, running from January 19, 2027, to May 23, 2027. You will work 15 hours per week, with shifts typically scheduled between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday. Some evening and weekend work is required. Interns participate in three professional development seminars and give a final presentation on their work at the end of the term.
What you'll do#
- Provide customer service to volunteers and staff to build strong working relationships.
- Help the team roll out a new volunteer management system, including system setup and training for staff and volunteers.
- Manage volunteer recruitment by posting opportunities and sending outreach emails.
- Represent the organization at community recruitment events and host information sessions at various sites.
- Develop and lead volunteer orientations in both in-person and online formats.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student, or graduation within the past 12 months.
- A degree or progress toward a degree in History, Nonprofit Management, Communications, Human Resources, Sociology, Psychology, or Event Management.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a welcoming, customer-focused approach.
- High attention to detail and organizational ability.
- Comfort learning and adapting to new software systems.
- Confidence and energy when presenting to groups or tabling at community events.
