About the role#
The MNHS Press Design Intern assists our publishing staff across print production, design, marketing, editorial, and administrative tasks. This role provides an opportunity to learn about the book industry through direct collaboration with our team and independent project work. Interns are required to participate in three in-person professional development seminars and complete a final presentation at the end of the term.
What you'll do#
- Create print and digital book promotions with the marketing team.
- Design and lay out academic print or electronic direct mailing pieces.
- Assist with production and design for press kits and Amazon A+ content.
- Manage publication art assets, including image scanning, photo repair, and cartographic projects.
- Support new titles with potential cover and interior design opportunities.
- Conduct photo, art, library, and internet research for books, anthologies, and reprints.
- Create charts, graphs, and PowerPoint presentations.
- Meet with editorial, production, and leadership staff to learn about department functions and the business of publishing.
- Attend acquisitions, production, and staff meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student, or graduation within the past 12 months.
- Degree pursuit or completion in graphic design, marketing, business, English, art, history, or communications.
- Working knowledge of graphic design and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Interest in book design, production, social media, and marketing.
- General research and communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and the Google software suite is preferred.
- Preference is given to students with a design background.
Location & details#
- Location: St Paul, Minnesota.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 19, 2027 to May 23, 2027).
- Commitment: 10 hours per week, typically two 5-hour shifts.
- Compensation: Paid position at $17.02 per hour.
- Work Modality: On-site.
