About the role#
This internship provides practical, hands-on experience in textile conservation and museum collection care within the Collections department. You will work under professional guidance to gain insight into long-term preservation needs and museum documentation standards.
What you'll do#
- Handle textile artifacts with care.
- Execute condition assessments for items in the collection.
- Perform basic hand sewing tasks.
- Enter records into a complex collection database.
- Write reports related to conservation activities.
- Participate in three in-person professional development seminars and deliver a final presentation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student, or graduation within the past 12 months.
- Pursuit of or a degree in a textile conservation pre-program.
- A demonstrated interest in the field of textile conservation.
- Experience handling fragile museum artifacts.
- An understanding of condition reports and their use in a museum setting.
- Previous experience with database entry.
- Good hand skills.
Location & details#
- Location: St Paul, Minnesota.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 19, 2027 to May 23, 2027).
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Hours: Part-time, 15 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
- Compensation: $17.02 per hour.
