About the role#
The MNHS Press Design Intern assists our publishing staff across print production, design, marketing, editorial, and administrative tasks. You will gain insight into the book industry through direct collaboration with our team and complete independent projects. This role involves a mix of computer-based work and other office tasks.
What you'll do#
- Create print and digital book promotions with the Marketing staff.
- Design and layout direct mailing pieces in print or electronic formats.
- Assist with production and design for press kits and Amazon A+ content.
- Research potential books, anthologies, and reprints using library and internet resources.
- Conduct photo and art research for book covers and interiors.
- Manage publication art assets including image scanning, photo repair, and cartographic projects.
- Provide design support for new titles, including potential cover and interior design work.
- Create charts, graphs, and PowerPoint presentations.
- Attend staff, acquisitions, and production meetings.
- Meet with the Editorial department, the Production Manager, and the Director of MNHS Press to learn about publishing operations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student, or graduation within the last 12 months.
- A degree or current studies in Graphic Design, Marketing, Business Administration, English, Art, History, or Communications.
- Working knowledge of graphic design and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and the Google software suite.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Research and communication skills.
- An interest in book design, production, social media, and marketing.
Location & details#
- This position is located in St Paul, Minnesota.
- The internship runs from January 19, 2027, to May 23, 2027.
- This is a part-time, paid position requiring 10 hours per week.
- Preferred hours are two 5-hour shifts per week, from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
- Interns must attend three in-person professional development seminars and present final work on May 23, 2027.
