About the role#
The Mercy Nurse Externship is a hands-on learning program for nursing students. You will work alongside Mercy nurses to bridge the gap between classroom theory and clinical practice. This is a paid, part-time position that offers exposure to diverse patient populations and various hospital units. You may have the opportunity to transition into a PRN Nurse Technician role after the program ends.
What you'll do#
- Participate in clinical work under the direct supervision of an RN.
- Assist with individualized patient care to support wellness goals.
- Work as part of a healthcare team to provide direct and indirect care.
- Perform designated clinical procedures and nonclinical support tasks within your scope.
- Gain experience with tasks such as IV therapy, Foley care, NG tube care, phlebotomy, and head-to-toe assessments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an approved registered nurse or practical nurse program.
- Completion of at least two semesters of nursing school by the start date.
- Completion of at least one round of clinicals by the start date.
Location & details#
- Location: Mercy Hospital Washington, 901 E. Fifth Street, Washington, MO.
- Term: Winter 2027. The program runs from December 14 to January 8, with an option to flex to December 21 to January 15.
- Commitment: Approximately 36 hours per week.
- Modality: On-site.
