About the role#
As a Student Nurse Intern in the Surgery department, you will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide care, prevent injury, and support patient health. You will assist the interdisciplinary team in providing holistic care while advocating for patients and their families. This role requires you to maintain a validated skills checklist and perform duties only after your skills have been verified by your nursing school and your Kaweah Health preceptor.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with patients, families, and health care providers to formulate plans of care.
- Perform basic bedside care and nursing procedures under the supervision of an RN.
- Answer patient call lights within two minutes.
- Assist patients with daily needs including meals, baths, and ambulation.
- Collect and record patient data such as intake, output, weight, height, and vital signs.
- Document all provided care in the electronic medical record.
- Collect, label, and deliver specimens.
- Report any changes or variances in a patient's condition to licensed staff.
- Provide post-mortem care and assist with emergency situations, including CPR and Code Blue.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited RN program: completion of the 3rd semester for ASN students or the 4th semester for BSN students.
- Current BLS certification.
- Participation in an approved nursing school work study program or current employment with Kaweah Health while enrolled in a partnered nursing program.
- A current CA Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.
- Ability to submit updated transcripts to HR each term.

- Pay: $24.00 per hour.
