About the role#
As a Student Nurse Intern in the PCU/ICCU-3W department, you will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide patient care, prevent illness, and assist with nursing treatments. This role is designed to help you gain clinical experience while supporting the healthcare team in a hospital setting.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare providers to support the plan of care.
- Perform basic bedside care and nursing procedures as delegated by your preceptor.
- Document care provided in the EMR and record vital signs, intake, output, height, and weight.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, ambulation, oral care, and meals.
- Support the admission, transfer, and discharge process for patients.
- Respond to patient call lights within two minutes.
- Assist with emergency care, including crash cart checks, CPR, and Code Blue responses.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients.
- Report any changes in a patient's condition or concerns to licensed staff immediately.
- Provide post-mortem care and assist with transporting the body to the morgue.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited RN program: completion of the 3rd semester for ASN students or 4th semester for BSN students.
- Participation in an approved Work Study Program affiliated with your school of nursing or current employment at Kaweah Health while enrolled in a qualifying nursing program.
- Valid BLS certification.
- Current CA Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.
- Ability to maintain a validated Skills Checklist at all times.
- Commitment to submitting updated transcripts to HR each term and notifying management of any changes in program enrollment.
- A watch with timing capabilities (second hand or stopwatch) is required.
- A well-groomed, professional appearance.
