About the role#
As a Student Nurse Intern in the Emergency Department, you will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide care and support to patients. This role is designed to help you gain clinical experience while assisting the healthcare team with bedside care and nursing procedures. You will be expected to maintain a clean, safe environment and advocate for the needs of patients and their families.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with patients, families, and other healthcare providers to support the care plan.
- Perform basic bedside care and nursing procedures under the supervision of an RN.
- Assist with activities of daily living, including bathing, ambulation, and oral care.
- Answer patient call lights within two minutes.
- Collect and record vital signs, height, weight, and intake and output data.
- Report any changes in a patient's condition or specific family concerns to licensed staff.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Collect, label, and deliver specimens.
- Provide post-mortem care and assist with body transport.
- Help with emergency care tasks, including crash cart checks and CPR.
- Maintain a clean and organized patient environment.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited RN program (completion of 3rd semester for ASN students or 4th semester for BSN students).
- Participation in an approved Work Study Program affiliated with your school or current employment at Kaweah Health in an eligible nursing program.
- Current BLS certification.
- Ability to complete Kaweah Health approved crisis intervention training within 60 days of hire.
- Preferred: Current California Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
- Ability to provide updated transcripts to HR each term.
