About the role#
As a Student Nurse Intern in the M/S Cardiac department, you will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide patient care and support. This role focuses on promoting health, preventing injury, and assisting the interdisciplinary team in a professional practice setting. You will gain hands-on experience by performing bedside care and nursing procedures once your skills have been validated by your school and a preceptor.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare providers to formulate and implement care plans.
- Perform bedside tasks including bathing, ambulation, oral care, and assisting with meals.
- Monitor patient status by collecting and recording vital signs, weight, height, and intake/output data.
- Document all provided care in the electronic medical record.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Respond to patient call lights within two minutes.
- Collect, label, and deliver specimens.
- Support emergency care efforts, including crash cart checks, CPR, and Code Blue responses.
- Provide post-mortem care and assist with transport to the morgue.
- Report any changes in patient condition or family concerns to licensed staff.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited RN program: completion of the 3rd semester for ASN students or the 4th semester for BSN students.
- Current BLS certification.
- Participation in an approved Work Study Program or current employment at Kaweah Health while enrolled in a qualifying nursing program.
- A current CA Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.
- Ability to maintain a validated Skills Checklist and provide updated transcripts to HR each term.
