About the role#
As a Student Nurse Intern in the Neuro Trauma ICU, you will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide care and support to patients. This position focuses on protecting and promoting health while gaining clinical experience in an intensive care setting. You will work 12-hour night shifts as part of an interdisciplinary team.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare providers to carry out care plans.
- Perform bedside care and nursing procedures once your skills are validated by your school and preceptor.
- Answer patient call lights within two minutes.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, ambulation, and oral care.
- Collect, record, and document vital signs, intake and output, weight, and height.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Help with emergency care, including CPR and crash cart checks.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients.
- Provide post-mortem care and assist with specimen collection.
- Report any changes in patient condition or concerns to licensed staff immediately.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited RN program with completion of the 3rd semester for ASN students or 4th semester for BSN students.
- Valid BLS certification.
- Participation in an approved Work Study Program affiliated with your school of nursing or current employment at Kaweah Health while enrolled in a specific partnership program.
- A current CA Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.
- Ability to provide updated transcripts to HR each term.
