About the role#
The Nurse Extern program is a 4-week experience designed for nursing students to gain hands-on clinical exposure. You will work alongside a preceptor and have the option to shadow in additional departments to explore different areas of nursing. This is a paid, full-time, on-site role based in Oklahoma City.
What you'll do#
- Participate in clinical work under the direction of an RN.
- Assist in the individualized care of patients to help them reach their highest level of wellness.
- Perform designated clinical procedures and nonclinical support tasks within the scope of a nurse extern.
- Work cooperatively as part of the healthcare team.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an approved registered nurse or practical nurse school of nursing.
- Completion of at least two semesters of RN clinicals.
- Graduation date in 2027.
- BLS certification, which must be obtained before you are assigned to care for patients independently.
- Note that this program is for unlicensed students; you cannot hold or obtain an LPN license before or during the program.

- Location: Mercy Hospital, Oklahoma City, OK.
- Term: Winter 2027 (December 14, 2026 to January 9, 2027).
- Compensation: $18.00 per hour.
