About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship for the Winter 2027 cohort. The program supports the transition from novice to advanced beginner through a combination of seminars, workshops, simulation, and clinical observations. Interns receive clinical preceptorship and participate in AWHONN's Neonatal Orientation and Education Program.
What you'll do#
- Provide nursing care for high-risk neonates and infants using the nursing process.
- Assess, plan, implement, coordinate, and document the effects of care.
- Work cooperatively with ancillary, nursing, and other patient-team personnel.
- Maintain confidentiality of all materials and follow proper release of information protocols.
- Model the Network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance in all interactions.
- Demonstrate competency in patient assessment, treatment, and age-appropriate communication.
- Comply with all departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
What you'll need#
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania.
- Nursing students must be eligible to sit for the NCLEX and obtain licensure before the start of the internship.
- For students: employment experience in a NICU, a scheduled Senior Practicum in a NICU, or a minimum GPA of 3.2.
- Current BLS certification.
- Ability to complete the Neonatal Resuscitation Program within one year of starting.
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including standing for up to 8 hours and lifting or pushing up to 75 pounds.
