About the role#
St. Luke's University Health Network offers a full-time, paid Acute Care (Med Surg) Internship designed to bridge the gap between nursing education and professional practice. This competency-based program supports the transition from novice to advanced beginner through a mix of seminars, workshops, supervised hands-on training, and simulation. Interns work with a dedicated education team and clinical preceptors to develop leadership, team building, and conflict management skills. Upon successful completion, interns transition to an acute care unit to provide care for patients across their lifespans.
What you'll do#
- Perform in-depth, systematic assessments of all assigned patients.
- Formulate collaborative and individualized plans of care, identifying expected outcomes using the nursing process.
- Prioritize patient care while utilizing available resources and collaborating with ancillary and nursing personnel to maintain professional standards.
- Function as a professional role model and resource for co-workers.
- Demonstrate the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in all interactions.
- Maintain confidentiality of all materials and ensure the proper release of information.
What you'll need#
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program, or status as a nursing student with a prospective graduation date eligible to sit for the NCLEX and obtain licensure before the internship start date.
- Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Pennsylvania or New Jersey, or a Temporary Practice Permit issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
- Eligibility for experienced RNs who have not worked in an acute care setting or have less than one year of experience.
- Ability to complete an initial 7 business days of classroom orientation.
- Physical ability to stand for up to 10 hours per day, walk for 6 hours per day, and frequently lift, carry, and push objects up to 75 lbs, including transporting patients weighing up to 500 lbs.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site position with rolling start dates.
- Opportunities are available at various campuses, including Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, Lehighton, Coaldale, Quakertown, Stroudsburg, Orwigsburg, and Sellersville.
- The schedule includes 36 to 40 hours per week, with holiday and weekend requirements as determined by the specific unit and company policies.
