About the role#
This position offers nursing students the chance to gain clinical experience before graduation. You will work under the direct supervision of a registered nurse preceptor to practice skills and participate in patient care. The goal of this program is for externs to transition into a new graduate nurse role on the same unit after obtaining their license.
What you'll do#
- Assess patients and assist in the planning, diagnosis, implementation, and evaluation of care.
- Administer medications and handle parenteral fluids, blood products, or IV flushes.
- Adjust IV pump rates or devices.
- Initiate, titrate, and discontinue oxygen.
- Perform basic data collection in an EMR.
- Practice clinical skills for which you have received didactic and clinical instruction.
- Spend time with a clinical case manager and observe medical procedures.
- Collaborate with other disciplines and report patient status to your preceptor.
- Follow safety standards and compliance education.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited nursing program.
- Graduation within one year of hire on your initial anticipated date.
- Current BLS certification.
- Ability to pass Nursing State Boards within 90 days of graduation.

- Location: Tucson, Arizona.
- Work schedule: Part-time, minimum 12 hours per month, maximum 20 hours per week.
- Modality: On-site.
