About the role#
The Medical-Surgical Nursing Student Practicum is a clinical learning opportunity designed for students in their final semester of an accredited RN or LPN program. Participants complete their senior practicum within the Mercy Hospital St. Louis Medical-Surgical Service Line to gain hands-on experience and prepare for a professional nursing career. This program offers mentorship from experienced nurses and clinical educators.
What you'll do#
- Assist in individualized patient care to support wellness.
- Perform designated clinical procedures and nonclinical support tasks under the direction of an RN.
- Care for a diverse patient population across multiple Medical-Surgical specialties.
- Strengthen assessment, clinical judgment, and time-management skills.
- Gain confidence by managing various medical and surgical conditions.
- Apply theoretical knowledge to real-life patient care scenarios.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in the final semester of an accredited RN or LPN nursing program.
- Commitment to complete the senior practicum within the Mercy Hospital St. Louis Medical-Surgical Service Line.
- Agreement to accept a bedside nursing position with Mercy upon graduation.
- Commitment to a minimum six-month employment agreement following graduation.
