About the role#
Banner Health is hiring Nurse Externs for the Medical Surgical unit at Banner University Medical Center South in Tucson. This program provides nursing students with clinical experience under the direct supervision of an RN preceptor. The goal is to prepare students to transition into a New Graduate RN role on the same unit after graduation and licensure.
What you'll do#
- Practice clinical skills, including patient assessment and medication administration.
- Manage IV pump rates, blood products, and IV flushes.
- Initiate, titrate, and discontinue oxygen therapy.
- Perform data collection within the electronic medical record.
- Assist with patient care planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Attend to patient comfort needs.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and report patient status to your supervising RN.
- Participate in unit activities, such as observing procedures or working with clinical case managers.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited nursing program with graduation scheduled within one year.
- Ability to graduate on your initial anticipated date.
- Current BLS certification.
- Ability to pass Nursing State Boards within 90 days of graduation.
Location & details#
- Location: BUMC South, Tucson, Arizona.
- Schedule: Part-time, minimum of 12 hours per month, not to exceed 20 hours per week.
- This is a paid, on-site position.
