About the role#
As a Student Nurse Intern in the Medical/Surgical department, you will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse to provide patient care. You will help promote health, prevent injury, and support patients and their families. This role involves participating in the interdisciplinary team to provide care and advocate for those served. You are expected to follow the ANA Code of Ethics and perform duties only after your skills have been validated by your school and a Kaweah Health preceptor.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with patients, families, and health care providers to formulate care plans.
- Perform basic bedside care and nursing procedures under the supervision of an RN.
- Answer patient call lights within two minutes.
- Assist with activities of daily living, including bathing, ambulation, and oral care.
- Help with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Collect and record vital signs, height, weight, and intake and output data.
- Document care provided in the EMR.
- Collect, label, and deliver specimens.
- Assist with emergency care, including crash cart checks and CPR.
- Report any changes in a patient's condition or concerns to licensed staff immediately.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow all safety and infection control policies.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited RN program with completion of the 3rd semester for ASN students or 4th semester for BSN students.
- Valid BLS certification.
- Current CA Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.
- Participation in an approved Work Study Program affiliated with your nursing school or current employment at Kaweah Health while in an eligible partnership program.
- Ability to provide a validated Skills Checklist at all times.
- Requirement to submit updated transcripts to HR each term.
- Commitment to keeping all required certifications current.
