About the role#
Ragnar Benson is hiring for a Construction Field Engineer Internship for the summer of 2027. You will support the Project Manager and Construction Manager on assigned projects. This is a full-time, paid position based in Rockford, Illinois.
What you'll do#
- Perform field survey work for layout and activity tracking using PC software and GPS equipment.
- Assist with managing project quality control records and reporting.
- Coordinate and document required audits and inspections.
- Manage material inventory and receiving paperwork.
- Support final job closeout, including as-builts and job binder creation.
- Assist with subcontractor scheduling and management.
- Handle Request for Information (RFI) submittals.
- Note that extended work hours and weekends may be required.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a four-year undergraduate degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or Occupational/Environmental Safety and Health.
- Completion of at least 24 college credits and a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- A basic understanding of the construction industry and business practices.
- Strong work ethic, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a team.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Adaptability and a willingness to learn.

- Requirements: 100% project-specific travel is required. You must be comfortable working in environments with exposure to dirt, heat, and noise.
