About the role#
The Mechanical Engineering Co-op Student will work with the mechanical engineering team on various projects. You will gain hands-on experience in design, analysis, thermal and vibration testing, and prototyping. This role provides exposure to opto-mechanical design and its applications in data centers.
What you'll do#
- Create and modify 3D models of mechanical parts and assemblies using CAD software.
- Support the development and validation of thermal management solutions for telecom systems.
- Develop and test prototypes for durability and industry standard compliance.
- Perform dynamic analysis and testing of systems exposed to shock and vibration.
- Create and revise engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
- Prepare engineering calculations, reports, and presentations.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and project managers.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (completion of 2nd or 3rd year preferred).
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and basic engineering fundamentals.
- Experience with CAD tools.
- Excellent communication, technical report writing, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively and work independently.
- Familiarity with GD&T and tolerance analysis.
- Exposure to FEA/CFD analysis, such as Ansys or Icepak.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes like machining, sheet metal fabrication, and 3D printing.
- Ability to adapt to changes in a design environment.
- Eligibility to complete a background check.
Location & details#
- Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
- Modality: On-site, 5 days a week.
- Term: Winter 2027 (8 to 12 months starting January 2027).
- Employment: Full-time, paid position.
