About the role#
Lumentum is looking for a Robotic Process Engineer for a co-op or internship term starting in January 2027. You will work on-site at our Ottawa facility to support the design, testing, and manufacturing of optical devices. This role involves working with 6-axis industrial robots and automation strategies to improve our production processes.
What you'll do#
- Design, perform, and document experiments using 6-axis industrial robots.
- Develop routines for commissioning, calibration, and motion optimization.
- Design, prototype, and validate custom end-of-arm tooling and robot jigs.
- Integrate machine vision solutions for part detection, measurement, and station setup.
- Perform failure analysis and execute Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Work with 3D printing, basic machining, and epoxy-based assembly.
- Operate in a cleanroom environment using microscopes and metrology tools like CMMs.
- Document robotic procedures and assist in transferring developed processes to our manufacturing team.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a B.Eng. program for mechanical, electrical, mechatronic, or a similar discipline.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical assemblies, epoxy application, and packaging processes.
- Programming experience in languages such as Python, C#, C++, URScript, or KAREL.
- Familiarity with machine vision tools and basic optics concepts.
- Experience using CAD software like SolidEdge or SolidWorks.
- Familiarity with lab and manufacturing tools such as 3D printers, drill presses, or mills.
