About the role#
The Epitaxy Manufacturing and Engineering team works to optimize semiconductor growth processes. This role bridges material science theory and factory automation by using metrology data to drive process stability and control.
What you'll do#
- Assist in developing automated recipe adjustment workflows using metrology outputs like Photoluminescence (PL) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD).
- Perform engineering measurements and analyses, including defect analysis, PL, and XRD, to evaluate epitaxial layer quality.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to draft and update MOCVD standard operating procedures (SOPs) for process control and troubleshooting.
- Use statistical methods to correlate metrology data with reactor performance.
- Identify trends that impact yield and wafer uniformity.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master’s or PhD program in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Ability to apply classroom learning through projects, laboratory work, or research.
- Foundational knowledge of relevant tools and methods.
- Solid understanding of physics and engineering fundamentals.
- Familiarity with semiconductor epitaxy or characterization techniques such as MBE, MOCVD, XRD, PL, or SEM.
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Availability for the full internship period.

- This is an on-site position based in Greensboro, North Carolina.
- This is a full-time, paid internship with a rolling term.
