About the role#
Lumentum is looking for an Optical Verification Engineer to join the Design Verification and Characterization team in Ottawa. This role focuses on the practical application of optics and photonics principles to support the development of advanced communication systems. You will work alongside experienced engineers to validate product performance and improve testing processes.
What you'll do#
- Apply theoretical knowledge of optics and photonics to real-world hardware testing.
- Develop measurement techniques and station architectures for optical parameters.
- Design and execute test cases to validate critical product features.
- Write and improve automated test software and scripts.
- Analyze and characterize failures in optical, hardware, and software systems.
- Report findings to designers using internal tools and processes.
- Share technical knowledge with the team and contribute to process improvements.
What you'll need#
- At least 2 years of progress toward a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.
- Current enrollment in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
- Technical expertise in active optical and electromagnetic components.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
- Familiarity with test plans, test execution, and bug reporting.
- Ability to take initiative and ask questions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic understanding of electrical hardware concepts.
- Experience in software development, drivers, instrumentation, and automation is preferred.
- Familiarity with optical lab practices is preferred.

- Location: Ottawa, Ontario (On-site).
- Terms: Winter, Summer, and Fall 2027.
- Employment type: Full-time.
