About the role#
As a Software Engineering Intern at Live Oak Bank, you will contribute to the digital products and platforms that support our customers and banking operations. You will work alongside engineers, product teams, and business partners to deliver financial solutions and improve customer experiences. This role offers hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to modern software engineering practices in a collaborative environment.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software applications and services.
- Collaborate with engineers, business analysts, designers, and stakeholders to deliver new features.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to support coding, testing, documentation, and problem-solving.
- Participate in code reviews, team discussions, and agile ceremonies.
- Research emerging technologies to help identify innovative solutions.
- Support cloud-based applications, including work in AWS environments.
- Contribute to technical documentation and project updates.
- Help design and implement integrations with internal systems and external fintech partners.
- Assist with automated testing and quality assurance activities.
- Learn and apply secure software development practices while maintaining awareness of regulatory standards like BSA, AML, CIP, and OFAC.
- Seek feedback and develop your technical and professional skills.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
- Experience with at least one modern programming language, such as Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, C#, or Go.
- A basic understanding of software development principles, data structures, and object-oriented programming.
- Familiarity with web technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated curiosity and a willingness to learn new technologies.
- Experience building applications through coursework, personal projects, hackathons, or previous internships is preferred.
- Exposure to AWS, cloud platforms, APIs, databases, Git, and automated testing or CI/CD practices is a plus.
- An interest in fintech, financial services, or banking technology.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site internship based in Wilmington, North Carolina.
- The program runs for 10 weeks, from May 17 to July 23, 2027.
- This is a paid, part-time position.
