About the role#
As a Nurse Extern at North Alabama Medical Center, you will work directly with our patient care team. This role allows you to gain clinical experience while working under the supervision of a registered nurse. You will support patient health and well-being in a hospital setting.
What you'll do#
- Perform direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.
- Assist patients with daily activities, including nutrition, hygiene, ambulation, and elimination.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions to your supervising nurse.
- Document the care you provide.
- Collaborate with health care staff to coordinate patient transfers, discharges, and referrals.
- Evaluate the learning needs of patients and families, providing education based on their specific circumstances.
- Advocate for the physical and emotional needs of every patient.
- Maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and your coworkers.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a nursing program at a university or college.
- BLS certification, or the ability to obtain it within two weeks of your start date.
